Suzuki Royal Oak offers an incredibly well-rounded musical education for our students.  After beginning study with private lessons and group classes, students may then add Music Theory electives.  Later there are opportunities for Suzuki Strings orchestra as well as Chamber Music groups.  The advanced Tour Group adds unmatchable growth and performance opportunities, as well as travel to national and international destinations.

Some students will also be interested in opportunities outside of SRO to complement their studies with us.  This is an overview of the possibilities.

School Orchestras

Some of our students attend schools which offer orchestra programs.  Many of them stay with their primary instrument in these groups, while some choose to add a second instrument.  Schools which are members of the MSBOA (Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association) may also provide opportunities for Middle School and High School Solo & Ensemble Festivals and All-State Orchestras.  SRO is not a member of MSBOA, which is for K-12 institutes, and so all related activities are managed through the school music directors.

Community Youth Orchestras

Many students choose to participate in an orchestra run by a community organization.  There are a variety of offerings in local programs.  Families should explore the conducting staff, rehearsal location and schedule, costs and audition requirements of any orchestra they would like to consider.  Current SRO students are performing with the Civic Youth Ensembles run by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and with the Oakland Youth Orchestras.   Your private teacher can assist you in considering if one of these programs might be right for your student!
