PARENT DISCUSSION GROUP
Class #4 is on Tuesday October 16th.
It's not too late to join us.
In our third class, we discussed Chapter 4 "Be Present". We will be discussing Chapter 5 "Practice Daily" on the 16th. Those who can't attend can send me questions and I'll discuss it with the group and give you their feedback.
Time: 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM

SUZUKI FAMILY GROUP CLASS
1st class starts Saturday October 20th. Registration deadline is October 18th.
Current SRO families with children ages 2 through 6
You are welcome to sign up. This is a great way to meet other families, read and discuss "Beyond The Music Lesson" and get hands on help with how to practice with your child at home.
Highlights of the Suzuki Family Group Class
Non-Instrument Specific - all students will learn together with their parent (guardian)
Each class will be led by Mark Mutter and last 60 minutes
30 minutes devoted to music and practice skills for students and parents. This will help students make a seamless transition to private lessons and group class.
30 minutes will be a book study of “Beyond The Music Lesson” by Christine Goodner. The cost of the book is included in the class. Students will enjoy continued musical games and activities with one of our SRO teachers.
Parents and students will interview with teachers during this time to pick their instrument, secure a lesson time and observe a group class if possible.
Suzuki Family Group Class Cost: $170.00 - includes 8 classes and “Beyond The Music Lesson”
Suzuki Family Group Class Dates: Families will pick from one of the following options:
Option #1: begins October 20 2018

Kimberly Meier-Sims: Cleveland, Ohio
Kimberly Meier-Sims, Violin faculty member of the Cleveland Institute of Music, director of the Sato Center for Suzuki Studies at CIM (since 2004), and registered Violin Teacher Trainer through the Suzuki Association of the Americas. Ms. Meier-Sims conducts a graduate two-year Suzuki teacher training program at CIM which is part of the unique Master duo degree program in Violin Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy. She became one of the youngest registered Suzuki Teacher Trainers in the country in 1988. From 1996-2004, Ms. Meier-Sims was a full-time faculty member at the University of Memphis where she conducted long-term teacher training, was the Coordinator for the University of Memphis Suzuki String Program and Director of the University of Memphis Suzuki String Summer Institute. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in education and performance from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, where she studied with John Kendall, the first American Suzuki pioneer. At Western Illinois University she received her Master’s degree in performance, studying violin and pedagogy with Almita Vamos. The summer of 1986, Ms. Meier-Sims traveled to Japan for a six-week study with Dr. Suzuki. From 1984-1996 Ms. Meier-Sims was a violin instructor at the Preucil School of Music in Iowa City, where she also served as Suzuki Teacher Trainer, Faculty Program Assistant and Chamber Music Coordinator. She has published articles in the American Suzuki Journal, Strings Magazine and the Tennessee Musician. In 2001 she was recognized as one of Tennessee’s outstanding educators by the Tennessee Governor’s School of the Arts. She was the Violin Coordinator for the 2002 10th SAA National Conference in Minneapolis. In April 1999, she attended The Thirteenth World Suzuki Method Convention in Japan. Ms. Meier-Sims has taught Suzuki institutes and workshops in Cork, Ireland and throughout the U.S.
Pamela Reit: Burlington, Vermont
Pam Reit has been a Suzuki teacher since 1986. She received her Bachelor of Music from Peabody Conservatory and her Masters of Music from Rice University. She moved home to the Burlington, Vermont, area in 1992 and began Vermont Suzuki Violins, Inc. She has taught at Institutes and workshops all over the country and directs a yearly workshop in Vermont in November. In 2016, Pam became the Director of the Green Mountain Suzuki Institute. Pam and her husband, Ira Morris, perform with the Burlington Chamber Orchestra and both have private violin studios at home. They live with their two daughters in Hinesburg, Vermont. Pam is a 2012 winner of the SAA Creating Community Award.
Edmund Sprunger: St. Louis, Missouri
Edmund Sprunger Registered SAA teacher trainer. BA in music from Goshen College, MSW from the University of Michigan, and extensive training at the St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute. In addition to his teaching, he is also a psychotherapist in private practice, and the author of two books.

The SRO Board passed a new budget that raised tuition by 2% which will go directly to raises for the SRO faculty.
All fund raising has been pulled from the SRO operating budget.
The SRO Board will be creating a new fund raising plan that will be presented at the beginning of the school year.
