If your child likes their instrument and doesn’t really like to practice – you are in good company! It doesn’t mean they don’t want to play their instrument. Practice is a discipline that students learn little by little, by trial and error, and with feedback from their teacher. It’s a skill to be developed over time for sure.

- C. Goodner

PARENT DISCUSSION GROUP

The 1st Class is next week, Tuesday September 25
Sign Up Soon

We will be discussing the book, "Beyond The Music Lesson - Habits of Successful Suzuki Families" by Christine Goodner.

Here is a short testimonial from SRO Parent Bernadette Borla;
Beyond the Music Lesson is packed with pearls for navigating daily practice. Besides the practical tips offered in the book, it also encourages us to reflect on how we relate to our children through practice. There are many references to other noteworthy works throughout the book as well. Recently, my daughter’s private teacher came up with a strategy from the book to start her lessons more smoothly and . . . it worked! It's a great reference for when we hit roadblocks and it reminds us to layer our approach. It also helps with big picture thinking and long-term vision. It is perfect for discussion and sharing of ideas of what has worked/not worked or what could be improved upon to strengthen our Suzuki triangles!

Private Lesson Record Book

I have designed a new private lesson record book for you to print, 3 hole punch, put into a new binder and bring to your first lesson. The new sheets are not instrument specific and can be used by everyone. The teachers approved it last night at our meeting and want you all to use it!

LESSON RECORD BOOK

Introducing "My Friend Izzy"Practice Help for Suzuki Violin Book 1
Would you like a new and entertaining friend to help your child practice? Come check out our new YouTube show called “My Friend Izzy”. Created to be a fun introduction to your practice time, each episode focuses on one Book 1 song (including all the Twinkle Variations). Your child will be encouraged to get out their violin and play along with Izzy. The song is repeated three times with some fun interruptions along the way.

Each episode is less than 10 minutes long and is a show created by kids, for kids. You will never hear the word “practice”. It’s all about playing and having fun.
If we can get your daily practice going on a positive note – then we’ve done our job! If you find our channel helpful we ask that you to please “subscribe” and then “like” and make “comments” on each episode. When you do this, it helps our visibility in the YouTube world and extends our reach to other violin players.

Izzy, 10 years old, has been a student of Mark Mutter and Suzuki Royal Oak for the past eight years. She began her studies at the age of two and is currently in Book 8, a member of the SRO Tour Group and beginning her first year with the DSO Civic Symphonia String Orchestra. Her little brother, Wesley, also featured in each episode, is a student at SRO, is in Book 3, and has been playing the violin for five years.

Check us out on YouTube: MyFriendIzzy

We need your help!!!
SRO has openings in all instruments and we need you to tell your friends. Our teachers have created new times and are waiting for students to fill them up. Please have your friends contact Haley DeLisle at lessons@suzukiroyaloak.org.
Remember: you get a $25 tuition discount if you refer and family and they put it on their registration form!

Summer Suzuki Institutes and Workshops

We interrupt this winter weather with news about some great summer opportunities!

Many of our families choose to enhance their musical education by attending a Summer Suzuki Institute. In locations all across the US and Canada, these events offer an incredible combination of Suzuki instruction, artistic enrichment, parent education and fun social events.  We continually hear how families have reinvigorated their music study through these experiences.

lso, there are periodic opportunities to attend
orkshops which are targeted to a variety of student levels and interests.  We would like to bring the following two to your attention for Summer 2018, these are 4-week workshops offering outstanding instructional and performance experiences to serious students ages 12/13 and abov, and the first registration deadline is February .

Parental Supervision in the Lobby and other Public Areas

Please make sure that you are with your child at all times in the public areas of SRO. Our Lobby and Hallways are becoming much to noisy which disturbs lessons taking place in the teaching rooms. We love how your children get along, but we need you to keep an eye on them so everyone remains safe and lessons can take place peacefully. Parents should not ask students to watch their children. An adult needs to be with them at all times.
